Three of the small Daily Paintings on display at Mica Gallery this month. These were a welcome and timely distraction. Plus, a great way to learn new materials! Turned out to be so much fun.
The square ones are 6”x 6”. Watercolor and water- soluble pencils. On paper mounted on panel.

June Featured Artist at Mica Gallery!

A few years ago I moved studios, started a new job, and was temporarily laid up recovering from a surgery, all in the span of a few months. Not a great time to start any new large projects.

But since I had to stay still for a couple weeks, it was a good time to try out some new materials and ideas.

I had to stay small since (at first, anyway). I was mostly working on a TV tray from the couch. That began a series of Daily Paintings spanning from November of 2018 through February 2019. I used materials mostly new to me…water-soluble graphite, color pencils and ink sticks, Micron pens and watercolor paints. A quick view of part of the watercolor pouring process. Pretty fun to do. One that dries I’ll put another layer of masking fluid and repeat that process. Mixing colors this way turns up unexpected and fun results!

One of the techniques I’ve been playing around with is watercolor “pouring “. Using resists and building up layers. Not sure yet how to incorporate this but I’ll keep messing around with it. Thanks to @ccpvideos @rfox90 for publishing the video that taught me!
